JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Electrical BIM Modeler/Manager will work with project managers, engineers, and designers in developing office BIM standards and the drafting and modeling of power, lighting, and electronic systems for various commercial, institutional, and governmental projects. This position is highly deadline driven, requires excellent organizational and collaborative skills, and includes the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain office BIM standards
  • Draft schematic, design development, and construction drawings
  • Build models of electrical systems
  • Review and comment on submittals and shop drawings
  • Meet project budgets and project deadlines as directed by the project manager
  • Provide accurate and timely work

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Computer-Aided design / Building Information Modeling

BIM Coordinator Position Open with Big-D

Big-D has an opportunity for a BIM Coordinator based in Salt Lake City, Utah.  This position creates, obtains, evaluates, coordinates and distributes 3-dimensional Building Information Models (BIM) for use by estimating, preconstruction, and operations.  This position works as part of the preconstruction team with Owners, Architects, and Engineers to facilitate collaboration and communication during preconstruction through use of BIMs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides BIM-related solutions, through hands-on direct work and by training others, to solve a variety of technical problems of significant scope and complexity related to use of Building Information Models (BIM) during Preconstruction and Construction
  • Implement use of various BIM applications as appropriate, such as Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Navisworks, Google Sketchup, etc.
  • Supports Preconstruction activities by working with various departments (sales, purchasing, operations)
  • Supports Construction activities by working with field staff:
    • Coordination including mechanical, electrical, architectural, structural systems, etc.
    • Project setup
    • Project kickoff meetings with Owners, Architects, & Subcontractors
    • Quality Control & Production Tracking: Provides support for usage of PC tablets and taking BIM into the field
    • Laser Scanning: Provides support for laser scanning of existing conditions and model based field layout
  • Understands and uses integrative “bridging” software linking BIM modeling and estimating systems (Excel, Timberline, etc) using software such as ViCo Constructor, Innovaya, etc.
  • Serves as point of contact with A/E community regarding Big-D BIM standards and requirements to facilitate a collaborative environment
  • Support BIM Manager in communicating the benefits of and how to implement BIM to internal and external customers
  • Contributes and supports BIM Manager in development of:
    • Hardware and software standards to facilitate VDC/BIM implementation
    • Creation of common construction-related element library (cranes, hoist, scaffold, etc)
    • Standards for model design (coloring, layers, etc) including “progression standards” regarding the “Level of Detail (LOD)” required at each stage of design from conceptual to CD’s
  • BU training program to share procedures, protocols, standards, lessons learned, and “best practices”
  • Project specific activities – sets up the VDC/BIM project from its inception to establish File structure & data exchange formats
  • Level of Detail standards, color coding / layer / naming conventions of systems & components
  • Management of component library
  • Support collaboration with project architect and engineers
  • May perform other duties as necessary or required


  • 2 years of experience using Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD
  • Utilizes leading-edge technologies such as BIM
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule
  • Proven written and verbal communication abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
